help-how to add links

Hi every one. May be that I am just being a bit stupid but can some one please explain how to use the add links extra properly. I would like to add an area where i can add links for people to click on where they can be direct to other sites /stories of interest and where they can add their links if they wish. I thought perhaps stupidly that it was a simple case of adding the add links extra and then adding the urls of the sites/ pages but each time I try it this way I either get an error code or blank page. when clicking on the added link? any help will be appreciated. thank you

Deactivated Extras - Select Extra: Link List - Add Extra

After adding, please have a look at options of this extra. Both you and your visitors can add links! Also, there is a menu of this extra on the left side of page under the extra icon. 'Edit links' function may help you!
